EAST LANSING — Michigan State University is experiencing a campuswide power outage, causing "all dining locations" to close on Saturday, Sept. 19. Eat at State provided an "important announcement" over social media at 4:33 p.m. Saturday, soon after the power loss occurred.
"Please note: due to the campuswide power outage all dining locations will be closed until further notice," the post said. "We will provide updates as soon as possible." Nadia Vizueta, communications manager for MSU's Department of Police and Public Safety, confirmed the campuswide outage and said crews are trying to remedy the problem associated with the university's T. B.
Simon Power Plant at 354 Service Road. "We are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible," Vizueta said. She shared an MSU "community awareness message" that said the outage happened around 4:15 p.m.
"We have experienced a widespread power outage on campus," it said. "The MSU Infrastructure Planning and Facilities (IPF) Team is currently working to quickly identify and diagnose the issue. Besides the power outage itself, there is no threat to campus.
"Please call or text 911 to report any emergencies, or call 517-355-2221 to report any non-emergency related issues." The outage happened a few hours before Michigan State’s football game at Notre Dame in Indiana. The game has a 7:30 p.m. start time. Check back for updates.
